Karam Yog is a registered charity 1131017, dedicated to delivering help and support for all members of the community through education. This charity was originally set up by a British Army Officer, in 1860 to help the disadvantaged Dalap (untouchable) individuals, by empowering them through Education and Training.
The UK Branch was set up in 1978 and many of our staff members have been with us from the start!
Karam Yog currently operates under the working name, Nottingham Teaching College, and is a multicultural organisation which accepts everyone from all walks of life on our empowering Education and Training programmes.
We do not discriminate against any gender, nationality, race, spiritual or religious belief, or way of life. This ethos is reflected in our management team, and by the students we teach.
We rely on our large team of unpaid volunteers who dedicate their time to helping out the community.
We focus on a wide range of activities to help the local community, including….
- Bringing the community together to increase cohesion and reduce racial/religious tension.
- Improving health and wellbeing for those who we work with. This includes those suffering from chronic illnesses, diabetes, high blood pressure, mental health difficulties or those who are just generally feeling low and in poor physical health.
- Providing quality training and lifelong learning classes for the most disadvantaged members of the community, who cannot or will not attend a mainstream college either as a result of their lack of confidence, social situation or cultural/religious barriers.
Our education centre is approved by several awarding bodies including the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and we deliver courses from Entry to Degree level.
We have a good record of success and we offer a high level of support, mentoring and guidance to all out students. Many of our students go on to volunteer with us to support others in a similar position to their own.
The Education and Training aspects of our charity are not funded by the LSC or any other Public body. We manage to survive primarily on donations.
